Roger that. Speaking of the memory install disk, I don't suppose
anyone on the list has a disk they could copy and send me? I'll pay for it..
That'll save me the trouble of dealing with Emu (they're a bit slow
responding to email).. :)
The problem with the board being sold as parts is the disk drive..
Something (the owner can't figure out what) is wrong with it, he constantly
gets "disk errors".. I might even be able to replace his disk drive with
mine and just use his emax.. ?
The Erase Voice command didn't work.. It doesn't clear out the sample
from memory. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? What does work for me is
loading an individual preset instead of an entire bank. That way it only
loads the samples needed for that one preset and that saves some space..

Make sure you get a Memory Install Disk from E-mu. The Emax must
be reprogrammed to accept new memory.

As you know this makes me very uneasy. I'm not sure you'll be able to
tell which chips have been replaced. What exactly is wrong with the
one being sold as parts?

Use Erase Voice is Preset Management (??) On the Emax II a "Voice"
actually means "sample" The Emax does not store "samples" as
standalone objections like newer samplers do. Any Digital Effects you
perform on the "sample" will effect in all Presets it appears in.
