Emax

Hello, i have found the diagnostics for the emax II and I assume that this is the same for the emax I also: My emax lights the two following lights at start up and i am unable to boot the emax any further. 

PRESET DEF. -   Turned off if the floppy controller can
                seek to track 00. This requires that both
                the floppy chip and the drive be
                connected.
DYNAMIC PROC. - Turned off after a complete software
                boot.

 My question to the group is if the emax is exhibiting this type of behavior what are the first troubleshooting steps that I can do before shipping the emax for professional repairs? Any advise would be welcomed i would like to work on this over the long weekend and determine if I can fix this or if it needs to go to someone more capable.
