So there are no 'generic' ICs that could be obtained elsewhere to
complete the SCSI retrofit, that you're aware of?

I think they use 'standard' 16x2 LCD displays, which I can pick up
(with LED or EL backlight for about $AU15. I can probably just rip the
backlight out and swap it with the Emax one... Cool...
