I have an Emax SE keyboard. I found a "non-working" emax rack HD on ebay. Exterior not in too good shape as it was further damaged in shipping. Fuse holder missing - no wonder it "doesn't turn on" according to seller. Hard Drive is dead (multiple blinks- I have seen this before in old macs), and system hangs on Diagnostics. This is fine so far. I want to make my Emax SE keyboard an SE HD. It has a PC333 board. I have 2 of the miniscribe 20MB drives that are known working.... I have a brand new SCSI 5380 chip. So I drop in IC13 and IC49 from the rack board. Install the SCSI 5380, and cabling. Install known good HD. I can boot normal SE1.1 OS disk. Floppy drive is NOT bad- it is brand new, as I put it in recently (I know how to change the ID0 on new drives to work in emax) I try to make an SE1.1 HD disk with EMX in DOS 6.22. Tried formatting on Emax first, as well as formatting with EMX. Symptom: See "Loading Software" and hear floppy disk loading.. normal sounds - 3 times it makes the not strange loading a floppy does. Then it just stops. Now to the question: Is the EMX program just not properly making the OS disk? While I am using MS-DOS 6.22, does the PC speed have anything to do with a successful OS creation? The PC is a 2.8Ghz P4. I dunno if it will make a difference, but I will try on a P1/233Mhz tomorrow at work. Thanks, Ted
