I know there is the SE OS ... version SE HD 1.1 and for non-HD machines SE 1.1 which
are the operating systems.
I've read that the SE Upgrade Kit came with an SE Upgrade and Development disk, but I
am unsure what this did. From what the Emulator Archive says you booted with it and
then copied the OS to all your media.
The Emulator Archive does mention that if your Emax hasn't already been updated to an
SE machine then it's "rather tricky these days". The SE Upgrade disk sounds like the
Memory Install disk for the Emax II another of E-mu's clever ideas to make a disk that
runs only once. If this is true then that is what you are going to need.
It must update the boot rom. So what happens if you boot a non-SE Emax with an SE
OS? Does it simply not work?
You would think that the least E-mu could do now is to release all this stuff to sources
that can make it available.
I thought the Emulator Archive had received the rights to all this stuff and were going to
make it available, but my last email from Rob indicated that he is not updating the
sampler sections of the site anymore and is focusing on the analog stuff. So I don't know
... Rob when you read this respond :)
Route 66 Studios mentions "Emax and Emax ll Revision C software upgrades available
shortly." but I have no idea what that is. They also say " Emax SCSI chip available
shortly."
As far as sounds, I don't know of any sources for third party Emax sounds anymore,
other than from members of this list and if you get your Emax upgraded to plus status all
the OMI (17 Zip disks!) stuff you can get from Rob.
