I purchased the XE version about 2 to 3 years ago for about $100 (I think they are selling it cheaper now) and found it at best to be poor to OK to put samples into the Emax. I never had any problems with the conversion but I'm sure there must be somthing lost in the 12 to 16 or 16 to 12 bit conversion but nothing my old ears could audibly tell then again I'm not an expert. I do believe that it is stillbetter than sampling into the Emax sample input though. Even so, I went ahead and purchased a new old stock version of Alchemy 3.0 and put on a Power mac 7100 and it is by far more superior to the Sample Wrench because it utilizes RS422 interface.(much faster). With Sample Wrench you will have to pay close attention to what key you place the sample on and it will only place it on one key. You will have to go in and "edit assignments" also for some reason I have never been able to transfer loops correctly until I went into digital processing and use the "Autol loop" function. In any case Alchemy takes care of all of these problems. I wouldn't knock the mac for handling the Emax as it was more taylored to the era these "machines" were built. Again it is easy to find a mac but you are going to have a problem finding Alchemy. I only seen it pop up on Ebay about 5 times in 3 years and I bought one of them. Also there is no support for Alchemy and it is copy protected with only 2 installs per copy. Bottom line is that Sample Wrench will work but it will not be a piece of cake.

Subject: [emax] Anyone using Sample Wrench with the Emax?
I ran across this program called Sample Wrench. They say it supports
Midi Sample Dump transfers from the Emax to the PC and vice versa.
Anyone using this? If it keeps the files in 12 until saved that would
be great. I wonder about turncation from 16 bit an if it has some
effect however negligible. I would prefer not to turncate if
possible. I also prefer this to buying an old Mac or Amiga and using
different software. If anyone is using this program let me know how
your thoughts are on it...and how it works for you.
Thanks in advance.....
