This is absolutely incorrect. DS/HD floppies have less magnetic coercivity than DS/DD platters and need stronger current to write information. The problem when you "cheat" (as the poster ignorantly suggests) is that the floppy drive does not increase the write current and the data is likely to not write correctly.
It is true that this works in a pinch, but especially over time the data is vulnerable to corruption if it's not corrupted in the first place. Still, this is NOT one of these things that "picky technical people say it's designed this way and they don't know what truly works in the real world." No, this is VERY MUCH unreliable and will trick you and burn you at every turn. DON'T DO IT.
It's best to just get the right thing, it's really no hassle to do so. If in the year 2015 you're still into using such an ancient sampler, I'm sure it's not out of your way to do things right and guarantee good results down the road.
