Re: [emax] PCD-50b Formatting Issues

Randel-

Firstly, make sure you are not accidentally missing a row of pins when inserting the PCMCIA card adapter into the PCD.
Usually I slightly angle down upon insertion.

Second- be aware that not every PCMCIA flash media adapter works with Emax 100%
If you are using actual CF, then a Sandisk adapter should work.
For SD card adapters, YMMV, although I haven't had any issue with a MicroTech adapter, or an MCR-5A adapter.
I also believe I used a "dazzle" succesfully also but it stuck out pretty far IIRC.
With that said, group members have run into problems with some adapters.

There is a list in the "database"; section of the group that lists adapters people have successfully used.

Several months ago I installed Ted's fantastic SCSI kit, and was able to format and use an internal Zip drive in my Emax.

I recently paid too much for a PCD-50b, and installed it in place of the Zip drive. I used a compact-flash to PCMCIA adapter, and a vintage 32Mb card.

When first attempting to format the card in the Emax, the "Formatting HD..." message stayed on for 10+ hours, and the card did not format.

I put the card and adapter into my vintage PowerMac G3, and was able to successfully format it as a Macintosh volume.

When I put the card back in the Emax, I still was not able to format the card after many hours.

The PCD-50 was set for SCSI 0, proper termination, write enabled, etc.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom?

Thanks!
