I tried this on 2 of the drives, but get the same behavior trying to boot either of them in an Emax with a floppy in the drive - "Loading Software..." and it hangs.
Going back to EMXP to verify, it reports the HD does have the file system on it, and no OS (as expected), but since the Emax still won't even boot, I can't copy software to the HD using the Emax.
So next I thought I'd use EMXP to write the OS to the drive and see if I could boot directly to the HD in the Emax. Trouble is I can't figure out how to get the OS on the drive in EMXP.
P. 109 of the manual says:
-
By generating a blank file system with EMXP first (as explained in the steps 1 in previous section) and adding an OS and one or more banks to it with, again with EMXP. This approach is typically used if you want to create a disk upfront on the PC with a custom selection of sound banks, e.g. for a live gig.
Example: to add a bank to an blank EMXP generated hard disk image for the Emax-II, choose “1. Manage EMAX/EMAX II Images and Disks” “1. Manage EMAX Bank Images” [select one or more banks] “3. Copy Bank to EMAX HD/CD Image” [select a bank number to which the bank should be copied and press ENTER]
The 2 examples given both apply to copying a bank to either an existing image or directly to the removable HD, which I was able to do so now there's a bank on there, but I can't figure out how to also copy the OS to a removable HD. I see no option to copy an OS to an image or removable HD. ...Maybe I'm just misunderstanding or looking in the wrong place? I don't suppose the act of copying a bank somehow also includes the OS, does it?
Thanks,
Jim
