Hello! new Elektron website - for users

2004-09-07 by devilfish1975

Hi,

Ive been Lurking on this usergroup for a while now and think its
format is terrible! so i have decided to set up a forum for us
elektron users.

Now i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to website design but have a
site up and running in beta (hopefully!).

If you could have a look, post comments etc etc it would be a great
help.

This is running at my home at the moment on a spare pc so it would
be good to see if it handles the traffic.

Anyway hope to see you on my site soon.

Regards

Devilfish

the address is http://83.146.14.210/

as i havent sorted a domain out yet.

Hi,
looks good, and honestly , prefer Forums like yours (php) much more
against the egroup format.
One thing, when i tried to register, i filled everything out, but it
produced an error message during sending out the mail to me.
This is is the error:
Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : D:\apachefriends\xampp\xampp\htdocs\phpBB2\includes\emailer.php

Stefan

my question exactly. I think it's just fine. especially since I just
get the messages emailed to me, rather than having to comb a
site for them.

It would only be "so", if what is proposed is that both forums are sychronized. But I didn't read that.

RE: Hello! new Elektron website - for users

2004-09-10 by Dieter Vandoren

Ah damn! Exactly my idea to start up an Elektron forum.
Anyway, good initiative. I can 't check it 'cause I'm getting an error at
the url right now. I'd be happy to throw my designing skills in if you need
help. It was part of my study and I've worked as a web/Flash-developer. Let
me know if you need help.

Why a forum?
In a forum discussions can be grouped by subject and thread. So you don't
have to do a search in the thousands of messages on the list, guessing at
what query would turn up the answer you're looking for.
Also, discussions arranged in individual threads will, to my opinion, be
much more intense and carried further than it is now because their is no
'noise' from other discussions.
And last, a forum can accomodate for much more users than a mailing list. If
the Elektron community keeps growing this list will also and the amount of
mails with it. I receive the messages in a digest and I already receive 2 or
more a day. In a forum you can check when you want to and only read the
topics you want. For example skipping the newbie questions you 've seen a
thousand time (nothing wrong with newbie questions btw).

I like the idea of a forum that evolves from the spirit of this list. I feel
we have a good community going on and I would like to see it grow with a
true forum. I am a member of www.synthforum.nl (dutch) and I can assure you
this is an absolutely great resource for beginners to pro producers, because
of it's forum structure and dedicated community.

My 2 Eurocents. Greets,

divi aka dtr

Subject: Errors updating MD...

Hi all,

MD and Elektron-users newbie here.. First let me say - Fantastic
gear and fantastic list - thanks Elektron (and thanks to all the users
on this list).

I'm having a problem uploading any SysEx information to my MD. I'm
using SysEx Librarian on a PowerBook with a MOTU 828mkII as my
Audio/Midi interface. When I try and playback any SysEx information
to my MD, it quickly displays an error message. When trying to upload
kit/pattern information, I get a "SysEx Error Code 1!" message. When
trying to update my OS, I get an "Upgrade Failed" message. Both these
appear as soon as the send begins, but before the send even completes.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I'm sure it's 'operator
error', being as I'm so new to the MD. If anyone could help me out,
I'd be most appreciative :)

  Thanks in advance,

    - dc

go to sysex librarian's preferences and increase the time between messages.
make it,
say, 128 ms. let us know how it works for you.

I have been having a slight problem with my MD. After I use it for a
while, some of the 16 programming buttons stop working...they stop
triggering the sounds. If I switch off the power and flip it right
back on, it works fine again. I am using an old OS right now, as I
do not have any midi interface on my pc, so I cannot update it. Has
anyone else had this occur?

I have had this MD for about 8 months.

It would only be "so", if what is proposed is that both forums are
sychronized. But I didn't read that.

Get a better email client then, one that can sort you mails in threads
and/or by subject. Sorry, but hotmail is not a good way of handling a
mailing list with lots of traffic. Even Outlook is preferable.

Read the subjects of emails, skip reading those you do not want to read.
This is harder when you are on digest, I know.

If there is to be a forum, I'd like Elektron themselves to set it up.

There is a suneshea virus forum that is quite successful. I'm not
sure if the yahoo group came first or not, but the yahoo group does
not have much traffic. It would be nice to post photos in threads and
things. It would be alot better using those grouped forum things.
This yahoo does work well as it is.

I would also like to add that other's have tried to make another forum
and they ALL failed. The key would be to get people to actually use
the forum.

I haven't checked the forum for it but does it allow for storage?

I built the synthforum.nl

You can build a forum for elektron but you must give users the oppurtunity
to upload stuff and keep the forum small e.g. 3 forum categories (sid, drum,
mono). If you do not, people tend to go off topic quickly or get lost.

    - dc

Hi,
looks good, and honestly , prefer Forums like yours (php) much more
against the egroup format.
One thing, when i tried to register, i filled everything out, but it
produced an error message during sending out the mail to me.
This is is the error:
Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : D:\apachefriends\xampp\xampp\htdocs\phpBB2\includes\emailer.php

I have been having a slight problem with my MD. After I use it for a
while, some of the 16 programming buttons stop working...they stop
triggering the sounds. If I switch off the power and flip it right
back on, it works fine again. I am using an old OS right now, as I
do not have any midi interface on my pc, so I cannot update it. Has
anyone else had this occur?

I have had this MD for about 8 months.

Thanks for any info!

Exactly my thoughts. Not yet another forum that one has to visit every
day. I totally agree.

It would only be "so", if what is proposed is that both forums are

I am using Outlook. The point is that I don't want to archive stuff
myself. I think anyone who's used to communicating through forums
agree that it's much handier than an mailing list.

By the way, I never said I wanted to cancel the list hé. Prefer that?
Then keep using it. But it's true that the community then gets split
in 2 groups.

And is it true that there have been attempts to create Elektron
forums? What happened to 'm? Any words from the owners?

There has been mentioned the argument that a forum should be Elektron
official. Why couldn't it just be an initiative of the community? I
think Elektron would like there to be a forum that they don't have to
monitor themselves. This list isn't either. I and for sure others
here would be very willing to moderate a forum and keep it going in
the right direction. I'm sure Jeffry from synthforum could help with
advice for that. (btw, respect jeffry!)

Let's keep this discussion going in a positive way so we can figure
out what the point of view of the community really is (and Elektron's
too).

I totally agree with the archiving. Yahoo's mail archive really sucks,
which makes it very hard to find anything. I would like to download _all_
mails somehow, that way at least I could search them easily.

What I like in the mailinglist format of communication is that I do not
have to go to some webpage, suffer slow servers and such. The mails are in
my inbox when I start reading mail.

Which at least to me is a very good reason to either have a web forum or a
mailinglist. Not both.

I could help out with that too, have been moderating one of the larger
Swedish music forums for a couple of years now.

The point? At least to it is this. Communication! All information in one
place for all Elektron users. Too bad this list is still on Yahoo though,
that makes not as good as a mailing list can be.

i concede that yahoo groups archive search sucks. i'd much rather see a migration to a
mailman-based solution. i'm sure that ampfea.org or a number of people on this list
(myself included) would happily host the list, but i wouldn't presume...

Hi Elektrons.
Nothing against Egroups, it was and is helpfull and i am happy that
this still exists.
But i prefer this PHP - Forum, where you can better catalog specific
topings, the only thing that sucks on most of this kind forums, is
that you can't upload to most of them, specialy when it is running on
a privat computer, which has to be up all day and night and privatly
administrated. But we won't loose Egroup, even if this thing will be
up one day.
Look at the format of PHP for other HW-Synths or Software, they are
much better organized and easier to search, you are able to create
diffrent folders for each of the hardware, manage some special
toppings like soundcreation and gigs, and so on...
Yahoo-Egroup is great, it's free for us and done some good jobs, but
it is also one of the first adress for spammers...
So i would welcome something like that, but it would be better if this
comes from ELEKTRON, so it will we up as long as they exist. It is not
so expencieve to manage somthing like this, i also own my webspace and
it can be administrated also from a third person remotly.
Please Elektron, give us some space at your home!!!

I own a yahoogroups list for the Evolver which is also moderated by a chap who owns a forum style place for the Evolver (which I moderate too) and all is well in the world and we link to each other.

Nobody is really attacking this list. It's been

Equally it's a little silly to not applaud anyone who
goes to the effort to introduce any kind of resource
that further heralds Elektron gear. Will it be
successful? Depends on people; it's a free world &
we're each our own Shepards. What would the web have
been like if Tim Berners-Lee had said "Hey, I started

Diversity should be embraced in life, on the web, and

Speaking of which, I hope to get the time to do my own

Hi,

dont know why my earlier posts didnt come through, but anyway.
I have the resources and some spare time left for setting up an simple php
discussion forum. But I dont want by any means interfere with the plans of
the
guys which are already doing this.
But, If the efforts dont succeed, I may reconsider this.
