I have a pattern that I like in MnM, I wish to be able to record the audio of
that pattern into Cubase, and also record the MIDI data of each track into
Cubase (so that I don't have to re-enter it manually). This way, I can layer
additional sounds (triggered from the MIDI tracks) exactly in sync with my MnM
pattern.

I have set up Gobal so that Control Out 1 is set to "int + out" on keyboard,
arp and sequencer. I have the audio routed to "3x stereo + AB mix" (though
changeing this doesn't seem to have any effect on things). Control Out 2 is set
to "out" for control and transport. Control In Tempo Sync is set to internal.

Everything else is unchanged from factory defaults.

When I set Cubase to accept MIDI data on any channel, it sees nothing. I am
using a MidiSport 2X2 interface, which has served me well for years, and which
routed the OS update just fine. However, when a MIDI device is connected to
the MidiSport "IN" there is usually a flashing light corresponding to the
connected channel (this lets me know that the interface is seeing the MIDI
device). However, the "recognition" light never flashes when the MnM is attached
from MIDI OUT to the interface, only when MIDI THRU is connected and I also have
another keyboard connected to MnM MIDI IN.

If I am just being really stupid and overlooking something simple, I
apologize, but I have spent a lot of time trying to riddle this out, to no avail.

I wouldn't feel so frustrated if I didn't like the MnM so much. I really
don't want to stop using it, but I feel that something is missing if I can't do
something like easily swap in an instrument for a couple of cycles in the
middle of a song.

Thank-you for paying attention to this frustration of mine.

Sincerely,
A

so in Control Out2, MIDI Clock is set to "OFF"? If so, you won't
get a flashing light on your MIDI interface upon connection; it's
sending nothing while not being played; as soon as you play it, it
should send messages, though. if you set MIDI Clock to "OUT" it
will send clock always (and thus your light will blink).

like I still have those! :-) no, there's not much else that would
effect the OUT port really.

it doesn't flash even when you use the exact settings described
above and you're playing a pattern?

BTW, you have all of the channels in the MIDI Chanls menu set
to something, right?

no need to apologize either way. hopefully it was just a silly
error and it's not a hardware problem (slapping your head in a
"duh!" moment is better than being without the machine
for a couple weeks! :-)

well if it's indeed broken, I'm sure Elektron will take care of you.
And since there's a repair facility in the states, you won't be
without it for too long.

no problem! let us know how it pans out....

good luck!
