we have had this discussion before... it's because midi is crap.

and because the sidstation dosn't really have any memory its not a possible
via straming or umn.. monkeys at all.

The MOS 6581 is capable of playing back 8bit PCM samples. However to enable
sample playback the SID needs to be fed sample data directly from some kind
of memory. Back in the old days.. when SID's used to be tucked away neatly
in the innards of the Commodore 64.. this memory was readily available. The
SIDStation lacks this direct access RAM.. and thus cannot perform sample
playback.

Pleeeezze correct me if I'm wrong.. I would be well pleased if I could make
our SIDStation playback those classic "Outrun" or "Savage" samples.

What the hell? I have no idea what you are talking about. The Sidstation
doesnt use samples. Anyone else get this?

hi,

can anyone tell why samples from all these tunes out there don\ufffdt work
with sidstation? i use asid and sidplay to play some samplebased
tunes from high voltage sid collection. when i go to sidstation-
device no samples can be heard! ... why? ... anyone?

you get a READY FOR RAM UPGRADE screen when you hit down while is ASID
mode.. mabye this is a feature that elektron thought of intigrating into
ASID as some point.

*meeep* Wrong! :)

Sample playback on the C64 was acheived by changing the volume of the
SID chip rapidly, the volume register has 4 bits. Thus, it is 4 bit
samples.

True. The volume register needs to be updated quite often to achieve a
decent sample rate, i.e. all the time when playing a song with
samples, unless you would like even crappier sounds.

The Sidstation OS does not support playback of samples in any
way. Memory and OS reasons are the causes for this.

thanks for you answere.. so the problem seems to be the ram/memory
and the os of sidstation. so we need a new os and better
hardware..hehe.. . just wondering if there some freaks outthere
who "circuitbend" the sidstation. [?]

anyway i am trying to make my own samples on c64. i never did this
before - so it´s very hard to go ahead. are there any peeps who do
this? somebody told me to use voicetracker for this. but i realy
don´t know how to do it. can somebody help?
