Case for MachineDrum?

Case for MachineDrum?

2002-01-29 by mmirande

Hey all -
I was just wondering if anyone had found a good road case for the
MachineDrum. I'd rather not continue to use the box it came in!
Ideally there is something out there that is both sturdy and cheap
but somehow I doubt it. I went to these guys http://www.cases2go.com
but everything is basically $200 +.

thanks all!

I made my own cases for both the sidstation and MD. Home Depot sells
metal briefcase style toolboxes for around $20. They are pretty sturdy,
and match the silver look of the sidstation. A MD will fit in one
easily, and I just got some nice foam to pad it out. I highly recommend
everyone just take a saturday afternoon to wander around Home Depot.
That place has everything.

maybe try an old trumpet case too.
I know a used trumpet case fits my Virus A tabletop perfectly. and for around $30 U.S. used.
Check with whoever sells used orchestra instruments for school bands and orchestras.
Old beat up cases can be cheap but sturdy.

[elektron] Case for MachineDrum?

2002-01-30 by Steril 707

Anyway, protect it, last saturday 1 of my endless rotaries went to
MD-Heaven(broke away), and 2 other Rotaries are not able to be pressed down
to fasttweak the values anymore. Happened on a flight...
The MD is a little bit fragile, not exactly 'built like a tank', so take
care...

As for the knobs that wont press down anymore...have u tried pulling the cap
up a little?
This happens every now and then on my MD with 2 of the knobs, every now and
then ill be editing a little too hard and it wont press down anymore, so I
gotta give the cap a pull and everythings fine

knobs

2002-01-30 by Zombie Nation

Knobs,

I noticed a few days ago that the first production line of MD has different
knobs than later ones. The new knobs turn much easier, the resistance is not
so high.
I tried a friend?s MD and it felt much more comfortable. Maybe there?s an
easy way to exchange the knobs without sending it to elektron (I dont want
to give my MD away..). Anybody opened the MD? Do you think a "do it
yourself" is possible?

Case for MachineDrum?

I think I'll save up for a Pelican case. They are pricey at around $200, but they are advertised as indestructible and airtight, and I figure that it is worth protecting an instrument like this completely. Their model 1500 is a good size comes in silver plastic that would look nice with the MD, and it uses that "pick and pluck" foam so that you can get the perfect fit. Camera shops carry these, and www.pelican.com has dimensions and photos.

I have also been considering racking the MD into one of the those specialized mixer cases: the case sits flat on a tabletop, and the rack is lockable at an incline, making a good work surface. The Pelican case couldn't really be used as a work surface in this way.

cheers,
JVS

Yeah, noticed the same thing a couple of months ago on my cousins
ser.no. 150-something MD. Much, much nicer knobs.... Nope, don't
think it's a DIY thing... Probably something the Elektron team has to
do for you, as it involves changing the whole pot. I too think these
newer knobs were much more comfortable.

Btw, getting tired of all those small fiddly things about the MD that
dont't work properly.... the LFO sync (worked on OS 0.96, but not
anymore).... the clicks and bi-noises when using parameter locks
(reverb, volume, filter and volume combined - stinks!), the noise
when LFO-modulating the volume and panning, etc etc.....

Syncing the MD to a MIDI sequencer is a joke when using the onboard
delay, which, because of the tape echo effect, never really syncs to
the main tempo, and sounds detuned when using tonal sounds. Shame the
MD is such a master on tonal sounds, when there is no way of tuning
the sounds correctly... Thanks, Shifty, for at least making it
easier! :)

Oh well, maybe I'm wanting too much. There must be a limit to the
MD's powers somewhere, although I've only had the "out of lock
memory!" message once.
It would be interesting to know how much you guys use the lock
function. After doing a bit of counting, I found out I was normally
using around 40 locks pr pattern, with a max of around 80-90. I
personally think this is one of the most essential functions of the
MD.

Regards,
Nils
