I don't see how you can do the latter without realizing it (and the former is kind of difficult in the first place). I wouldn't try messing with it too much, you could screw it up worse trying to remove the glue. Elektron has these encoders custom made and to my knowledge there are no others like them. so I doubt you'll find new ones unless you go through them. so there's two options: 1) contact Elektron and see if they'll okay you to repair your machine (if it's still under warranty) and send you the part, though I wouldn't count on this happening 2) send it in for repair (there's a facility in LA now; and I think you're in the states, right?) good luck!
