Why dont you just set up the patterns to play this way. I know what you mean by being easier, but that doesn't mean you can't do it on these sequencers. Just make it a different machine and have it mute and unmute and change as the song goes. You could even have evolving kits as you go. Things could always be easier a different way for each piece of gear, but you gotta work with what you got. If it's getting too hard maybe you need to change your approach. About the 28 step patterns just make two patterns of 14.... Alot of what's been said recentlly seems to me to not be impossible on the MD at least. Different pattern lengths, you are limited by your longest pattern and in a chain it seems unlimited (more than 32 steps). It's kind of like asking to have a better resolution on this step pattern. Just my opinion here. I hope nobody lashes out at me.
