Elektron Musical Instruments

Hello everyone,

I recently came into a spare sid chip (I'll have 
another one very soon) and I was wondering if anyone
knows how to tell the chip revision. I know there was
four revisions to the 6581 the fourth sounding the
"best." What are the sonic qualities of the other 3 
revisions?

Also, I've been looking for an Sid 8580, are these 
directly compatible with the sidstation (i.e. can i
pry
out the 6581 and pop in the 8580)? Also has anyone
know
anything definite about the 8580. I think I read 
somewhere that it sounded smoother, is that correct?
ALso does anyone know what computers shipped with the 
8580? I think it will be easier to find and scrap 
computer with the chip in it (Heresy!) than to find a
NOS 8580 chip.
