I like seeing the DKV, (I guess a novelty for Coldpaly) but not the idea of pre-recorded music at live performances. I went to a wedding a while back, discovered that except for the singer, the entire band was faking it with a MIDI playback system.

No I liked the fact that he composed the song and could play it live with his toes if he wanted to !! I just thought it was different and entertaining ? They are not a wedding band that play midi files all night. Sent from my iPhone

Glad you enjoyed it, I guess its a novelty to have an invisible pianist. Doesn't do it for me, I'd prefer a live musician. Perhaps Yamaha could use it for PR if they are interested, as you suggest. Sam www.keyboardcollective.com (212) 684-3304

Thanks for sharing that video Donal! I thought was really cool! I don't think the use of the Disklavier was to replace a musician, but instead, purely for the effect. Pat Metheny did a really neat thing with Disklavier a couple of years ago, and again it wasn't about saving some money by eliminating a piano player! :) Bill iPhone On Jun 1, 2014, at 6:35 PM, "Donal Galvin discodonal@... Instead of "invisible pianist", I like the idea of using the DKV in experimental musical situations. I have some old algorithmic MIDI software, that I haven't used for years - it would be interesting to control the DKV with some of these instead of controlling just synthesized sounds. I'd be interested in hearing about the DKV used in unique and experimental situations if anyone knows more about this... Sam www.keyboardcollective.com (212) 684-3304

Interesting choice to mic up the piano rather than make use of the silent system!
