Piano Lid

Hello All,

I have a DC7A.  C7 grand disklavier.  I'd really like to take the lid off to do a good cleaning.
It appears that I can simply pull the 3 hinge pins and remove it.  I'd assume they would be a little tight but should come out.
My question is should I expect the lid to go back on easy?  i.e. the hinges lining up again and the pins going back in.  I won't be taking 
the screws out,  only the pins.

My concerns stem from years and years of mechanical expertise and knowing that Murphy's law is alive and well.  
Once something comes apart,  it has the uncanny ability to "spring" to a slightly different position which requires
a lot of muscle and sometimes pry bars to get it back into place.  I'm concerned that may happen here.

Has anyone had any experience removing and re-installing the lid on a C7?

Joe, you shouldn't have a problem. With the lid in its down position, and after you remove the hinge pins, use 3 or 4 people to lift the lid up off of the piano. If the 3 sets of lid hinges separate easily, then you will not have a problem putting the lid back on (using 3 or 4 people.)

piano lids are not generally difficult to remove and replace if you have enough people to lift it off and move it away from the piano without dropping bumping etc. when you put it back on you can do some damage if you drop or slide it while aligning the hinges. best to have more than enough people helping to lift it and one person who lines up the hinges without having to lift the weight.

i have removed and replaced lids by myself using moving pads to prevent damage. still i would probably not remove the lid just for cleaning. if you piano is within a few feet of a wall on the bass side (or if you can move it in to such a position) you can open the lid past vertical an prop it against the wall (padding in between) and have all the room you need for cleaning etc. for something like re-stringing it is probably worth removing the lid since you will be banging things around a lot.
