Unless Yamaha has any recovery tools or a utility to extract a raw dump of the memory disk storage, I think the only way to proceed would be to send the Disklavier control unit to a data recovery specialist or company like Kroll Ontrack. That individual or company would need to desolder the flash chip(s) holding the memory disks, dump them using an external reader/programmer, repair the file structure (if anything can be salvaged at all), extract the files, then reinstall or replace the flash. This will be very expensive. The job can be divided into two tasks. The first task would be to obtain the dump of the flash memory and reassemble the controller; the second task would be to study the dump and piece together any recordings that are still intact. As the latter task requires some knowledge of Disklavier file formats, I would be willing to take a shot at recovering performances from a raw dump of the flash memory, if your customer can obtain that. It would be less expensive than paying a data recovery service to come up to speed on these. I have not seen the inside of a DKC55RCD. If the flash memory is socketed or otherwise removeable, that would make the job of obtaining the dump much easier. Mark Fontana On 06/02/2014 02:17 PM, herblindahlpianotuning@...
