Imac W/parallels & XP home

Imac W/parallels & XP home

2008-01-02 by davedoughman

I've been a Windows guy for many years but about to get a iMac. I'll
continue to do my photo printing with Qimage (a Windows only program)

How is monitor color managed with an iMac running Mac programs then
switching to XP for Windows only programs? Does monitor calibration in
Mac start up still valid when running Windows? Or does each operating
system require separate monitor calibration?

If I do all photo printing w/XP and Qimage will my present printer
profiles (copied over to the iMac under windows) still be valid?

OT Any real issues running PhotoshopCS3 under iMac vs Windows? Or has
Adobe really made PS run equally well under both systems?

Hi,

I also switched from Windows to Mac and have a similar question. In my
case I do the printing profile myself by using Printfix Pro to do my
color profiles. Is it possible to use the the printer profiles which I
produced under Win on the Mac, or do I have to measure them again
under Leopard? In that case can I use at least the printed targets,
or do I also have to print them again?

I think in your case by using Qimage inside, will work just by move
the existing targets to the proper directory, because you still use
the original Windos Epson printer driver. So there shouldn't be any
difference in the output.

I would also like to know if it is possible to calibrate a Monitor
running Windows inside VMFusion/Paralles by doing it this way. In my
case I'm running a dual screen set up. Which means the 24' iMac screen
is used for the Mac software and on the second screen I run Windows XP
in fullscreen Mode.
First I calibrate both screens with the Colorvision for Mac software
and then I start Windows XP and calibrate the second screen again.
Without touching any hardware settings on the second screen.
If that would work I think it should work for parallels in a single
display environment as well.
Has anyone ever tried that? If not I will give it a try over the
weekend. Hopefully that will work, otherwise I have to switch my CS2
Version from WIN to MAC.

Have a happy new Year
Sascha

If you're running Windows virtualized (alongside OSX, using either
Parallels or VMWare Fusion), then perform your display calibration
in OSX using the Mac version of Spyder2 or Spyder3 software. It will
"stick" even when you're viewing Windows (either in a window, or
full-screen). Neither of the virtualization products will take
over video card calibration from OSX and there's no point in running
Spyder2 or Spyder3 software as a Windows application in either of
those configurations.

If you're running Windows in a dual boot environment from Boot Camp,
then OSX and Windows display calibration are separate. You can leave
the Spyder attached, boot OSX and calibrate using the OSX version of
the Spyder software; then boot Windows and calibrate using the Windows
version of the Spyder software. You'll end up with a display profile
stored in the proper place on each "system".

I'm running CS3 both as PPC (G5) and native Intel (MacBook Pro) on two
different Mac systems. It runs beautifully on both. I don't have any
experience running CS3 under either XP or Vista.
