Newbie question.

Newbie question.

2007-02-07 by darrellmccombs

In preparation for getting my Printfix Pro, I printed out some
targets the night before. That way they would be dry for measuring
the next day. The prints came out fine with lots of color tiles to
meausure.

Last night. I recieved my Printfix Pro and did my first set of
measurements. I misinterpreted the intructions though during the
Calibration phase.

When it set to set the calibration tools on the "White "Tile" I
interpreted that to mena the White Tile on the paper to be
measured. Apparently, Colorvision means the white tile in the
holder. Why dont they just say to put the tool into the holder.
After, how do we know if the white part of the holder is "tile"? ;-)

Anyway... By measuring the White Tile on the paper instead of the
Holder, have I through off my calibration?

If so is there a way to edit the measuements file instead of
measuring the whole target again?

BTW, aside from the calibration instructions, I am happy with the
product. The interface and workflow are well thought out. A lot of
things were done right in these areas.

Thanks,
Darrell

(First comment: go to the ColorVision web site and download your
free PrintFIX 2.0 installer, as an upgrade. What you would have gotten
on the CD would have been earlier 1.x software. If you're running the
Windows version, make sure you Uninstall the older software, with the
spectro unplugged, before you run the 2.0 installer).

This happens on a few occasions; "tile" does mean "tile", not paper.
It's the round white plastic tile in the calibration base that comes
with the spectro.

(David Tobie may comment on this...:-)

It's the only white thing that comes with PrintFIX PRO...;-)

Yes, your measurements won't be right if you calibrated the spectro
that way. You need to throw them out; recalibrate correctly (you can use
the Tools:Calibrate command to do this; and then remeasure all of them).

No, you have to measure the whole target again. Every measurement will
be off. (You don't have to reprint the target; just measure it over again.
Definitely throw out the old measurement files).

Thanks! :-)

Actually, I did download the Version 2 before my unit arrived, so
version 1.1 was not opened or installed.

If this happens sometimes, it is probably worth rewording.
Saying "Put the tool into the holder" is much more IMO.

I was afraid you were going to say that.

Thanks fo the help,
Darrell

Absolutely. You can't use measurement taken with an incorrect white calibration. Its a common cause of bad profiles.
