Probably a small problem in PrintFix Pro created profiles

Probably a small problem in PrintFix Pro created profiles

2006-08-11 by Ronald Janowsky

Profiles which are created via PrintFix Pro are writing
a wrong date into the Created tag in the ICC header:

6/208/2006 16:9:0 GMT

See two screen shots:

I'm getting this error/info in ICCinspect and in the WinColor
application from Microsoft's Pro Imaging Powertoys. Is this a
problem in the two above named apps or is there really a wrong
info in the header?

There are multiple possible formats for tags in ICC profiles (and different ICC spec versions to boot). We'll take a look and see if we can find a method that makes all the tools and apps happy, on both platforms.

Ronald,

Thanks for the note!

After a quick test:

- Profiles created on the Mac have a proper date/time in the header, but:

- Profiles created with the Windows version don't.

This will go into the list of minor things to be fixed in the next
version. In the meantime: don't worry; it's a small error, but it won't
affect anything you do with the profile.

thanks a lot for your confirmation. I know it's only a really minor bug,
but neverless it's
even better to get rid of such small things. By the way, I'm getting
nearly perfect monitor/printer matches
for my old 22" Mitsubishi CRT and my Epson 2100 with multiple different
papers - glossy and matte.
And until now I didn't had to tweak any profile. For me it's working great!

I agree. It will definitely be fixed in the next version.

That's even better to hear!

In the Windows PrintFix Pro version seems to be another small
glitch. Sometimes when I print targets the color patches are not
distributed evenly, but some columns/rows are printed
without any space between them. The following two targets
are printed only some minutes apart, but the second one
is definitely not correctly printed:

http://www.rj-photo.de/printfix-pro/225-Target-2.jpg

What can be the source for such inconsistent behavior?
Both targets are printed with exactly the same settings
without leaving and restarting the program.

Which printer and printer driver version are you using? I can tell
you that this hasn't happened to me yet running PFP on Windows 2000 or
Windows XP for my Epson R1800.

I'm using an Epson Stylus Photo 2100 with driver version 5.50. Nothing
special and I don't have any problems printing normally from Photoshop
or any other application.

What can be the source for such inconsistent behavior?

Looks to me like a scaling issue. (and not one that's consistent, since
this is the first report we've seen of it, so I'd guess that this is
sporadic, at best). I've seen this happen, sporadically, in the on-screen
preview of a Target window (when opened up to a full-sized window), but I've
never seen it happen in an actual target print before.

The targets are generated from vectors, so if there's any positioning/rounding
inconsistency happening when the patches are created and laid out in their
grid, this is what would happen.

I'll add it to the list of things to look at for the next version. Don't
worry about this having an effect on the actual -colors- that are printed
in the patches; they're solid colors, and this won't change, regardless of
whether the spacing between the columns or rows is thicker, or thinner,
or thinner to the point of disappearing.

It's a cosmetic issue in how the patch grid is presented in the target print,
but it won't have any effect on your measurements.
