I have an NEC LCD monitor (Multisync LCD2489WUXi)
that has a Black Level control in addition to Brightness and Contrast. When I
calibrate it with Spyder 3Elite (at 3.07 now) Brightness affects the black point
and Contrast the white point as expected. But what do I do with Black Level? It
seems that to get good separation of very dark values, it is not enough to leave
the Black Level at the default value and use only Brightness and Contrast
settings; I seem to be able to get more shadow detail by raising the Black Level
somewhat. Is there a correct procedure for monitors that have all three
controls?
