Colorvision profile error message at startup

2007-07-12 by j0llyjump1ngju88y

I'm running XP on a Dell notebook and been fairly happy with prints on
an Epson 2200 after setting things up with Adobe Gamma. But I decided
to try to get a bit better and purchased a Colorvision Spyder3Express
and seem to have a problem. The software loaded fine and the
colorimeter does it's thing and tells me it created a profile called
spyder2express.icm in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color and that
this profile would now be loaded as default. The final colorvision
image that showsthe difference between the unprofiled and profiled
monitor was subtle but noticeably better, so getting that profile
loaded at windows startup seems very worthwhile.

When I boot the machine, I get a colorvision message box that says "no
calibration data for the profile 'sRGB Color Space Profile' for
monitor 'plug and play monitor.' Please select a different profile
using Profile Chooser [1168]". So I guess the colorvision profile
isn't loading - it's hard to tell either just in windows or in CS2 if
the dspaly most closely resembles the with spyder profile or without
(as I said, the differences were subtle and not being able to flip
from one to the other leaves me unable to tell).

Oddly, both the spyder3express.icm and the sRGB Color Space
profile.icm files can be found in the spool\drivers\color folder. I
don't understand why the colorvision message is referring to the sRGB
profile when it previously said it the spyder2express profile would
now be the default. I also don't understand why it's complaining about
the sRGB profile containing no data. And try as I might I can't figure
out what Profile Chooser is or how to use it.

I tried looking on Colorvision's site but ended up following some
links that tried to load all hundreds-of-megs of MS .NET framework in
order to load a profile chooser. That seemed a bit ridiculous.
Couldn't find any information here with some searches (or on dpreview
where I have also posted this query), but it's quite possible I just
don't know what to search for. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.
