polaris link memory problem

polaris link memory problem

2007-11-26 by spistrich

I finally have been working on making link patches on my
Polaris, but I cant get the new links to STORE. I have some old
links in bank 'K' from the factory or previous owner. I can erase
them . I can create new upper/lower/unison links but when i try to
store them it doesnt take.Ive been reading the manual and cant
believe im missing the procedure.
i can apparently do link edits , but they also dont STORE. The
Lower function- 'store link' LED flashes and goes out when i punch
in the new link location, but it wont take.
Now a year ago i had an allegedly 'pro' service place replace
the non-working 'link unison' LED...{the unison functioned, but with
no light-- i had bought the polaris that way from the previous
owner}..Could this be related to my problem ? at that time i didnt
test the link memory, because i was unfamiliar with my new toy and
wasnt doing links. Now i think some connection is missing , any ideas
out thete as to what connection this might be? some other
troubleshooting tests, or am I just messing up the Store Link
procedure?

1. make link... 2. push 'lower function' 3.push 'store link'
(led flashes) 4. push 'store link' again-for same bank location
(or send to new bank location) 5.Flashing 'store link' LED stops

Are you just wanting to create a 'linked patch'?

If so, then the process is easier than you're attempting.

Simply create the patch. Use the link upper/lower/unison to get the
sound you want.

For instance, if you'd like to have patch A1 on the lower part of the
keyboard and B2 on the upper part of the keyboard:

Select A1
Press "Link Upper" (led blinks)
Press B2 (Link Upper LED blinking stops, and stays on).

Now, if you play - you should hear A1 on the lower keys and B2 on the
upper keys.

To save this setup, simply select "Upper Function", "Store Program."

Now, whenever you recall that patch, it will 'remember' that the link
program is "B2".

(The 'store link' command is to used separately store just the link
program).

ok ,it worked...thanks..im real happy it was just me and not my
Polaris .
but now i still dont understand the use of the 'store link' button,
if the 'store program' button is what stores the link...
It seems like i didnt get this out of the manual very clearly. that
storing the links wouldnt be done with one of the 4 'keyboard'
buttons.(esp the one labeled 'store link")

Glad to hear it worked out OK.

Consider the case where you've stumbled across a patch that you really
like, but it's already been set up with a split.

There's no easy way to tell which patch was originally used to form the
split so there's no easy way to 'tweak' the link patch. Similarly, if
you just wanted to use the 'split' sound, you might have to go through
all the patches to find which one it was.

Instead you can use commands like 'store link' to store just the link
portion of the patch somewhere (e.g., store unknown, nice sounding link
to Patch B7. Now you can modify B7 however you'd like to get it to
sound the way you like).

interesting scenario....to require a seperate button to 'disassemble ' a link , yet not erase it. That was one point i could not find described well in the otherwise lengthy manual. I really couldnt find a good explaination for the ''store link' button . Storing new links was the last part of my polaris that i hadnt really used or figured out . So far the unlinked sounds had kept me pretty occupied , particularly with that role of the assignable slider.
