setting up the CGS41 diatonic converter

setting up the CGS41 diatonic converter

2013-04-06 by Stephen Richards

Hi Ken and all

I have had the MARSH panel built for about six months now and have never done any calibrating.

So today , i'm trying to have a crack at it.

Firstly , the CGS41 diatonic converter.

The documentation say the two trimmers, octave buffer and note buffer, need adjusting.

Could anyone shed some light on exactly what i'll need to do to get these trimmers adjusted.

A suggested patch for the Infinite Melody would be a good starting point i assume.

many thanks.

Octave buffer -

When the inputs to OCT A,B and C and NOTE A,B and C are all Low (0V), the
output should read 0V. Set OCT A, B and C High (+15). Adjust Oct Adj trimmer
until the output (OUT) is 7.0V.

Set OCT A,B and C and NOTE A,B and C all to Low again. The output should
read 0V again. Set NOTE A, B and C High (+15). Adjust Note Adj trimmer
until the output (OUT) is 1.0V.

Really best done before the Diatonic Converter is connected to the Infinite
Melody.

You get Lows into the Infinite Melody by clocking it multipe times it with
nothing connected to the Noise input and the SENSE knob twisted CW, and
you get Highs into the Infinite Melody by clocking it multipe times it with
nothing connected to the Noise input and the SENSE knob twisted CCW,
but I think this won't help, because I don't see how you can individually
set the note or oct inputs. You may be able to trim by reading the voltages
at IC4a Pin 1 (set to -7.0V), and IC3b pin 7 (Set to -1.0V). These chips are
the ones closets the their respective trimmers.

question about mounting screw on modules

2013-04-07 by Dennis Tan

Hi there,

this is a little off topic, but maybe someone could shed some light in this.

I'm building a new system that is 4U / 7 inches in a 17 inch rack rails.
What I can't seem to figure out is where should the mounting screws should be.
My panels sizes are 4.25" / 4 1/4" or 1.75" / 1 3/4".
Any ideas?

best

Dennis

4.25" you must be doing Buchla Style. When doing individual or "Uni /4U" I
always line up the PCB on top of the panel before populating the panel and
mark/add two holes for mounting while making sure the holes will not in the
way of a pot.
here is an example of the mounting holes diagonal from each other. Notice
they are different for every panel because the PCB widths are different.

Or do you mean mounting screws for mounting the panels into the rack ? That
would depend on your rails.

I'm a little confused as well what you are trying to figure out but if you haven't noticed at the bottom of the descriptions page of each circuit under "notes" you'll see the dimensions for the mounting holes on the pcb.

Re: question about mounting screw on modules

2013-04-11 by Dennis Tan

Hi!

I meant the mounting screws for mounting the panels into the rack. I have rack combination from Schneiders Buro.
This is what I'm using,

http://www.schneidersladen.de/gewindestreifen-m3-gewinde-2

So far, I've made the holes on the panels at x-0.6 and 0.9cm, y-0.4cm. It works this way, then I'll have some free space to move to fit the screws on the rails. But is there another way of calculating them?
Though i'm using the Buchla kind of panels, but my panels are not all at 4.25inches. they are also at 1.75, 2.25, 2.5 etc....

Re: question about mounting screw on modules

This should help:
www.doepfer.de/a100_man/a100m_e.htm

Distances on those strips are not metric, but 0.2 inches per hole...

It's an industrial standard, so looking up the datasheets made by Schroff, Rittal, Fischer etc. should give you the same info as the Doepfer page...

Where you actually drill the holes on your panel is up to you as long as the distances are multiples of 0.2" and the first hole is 7.5mm from the left (allowing for panel width and mounting tolerances)...

Hope this makes things clear.

Great that's what I was looking for.
I guess I've missed that out from the Doepfer page.

Thanks again!
