"I'm building a new system that is 4U / 7 inches in a 17 inch rack rails.
What I can't seem to figure out is where should the mounting screws should
be.
My panels sizes are 4.25" / 4 1/4" or 1.75" / 1 3/4".
Any ideas?
4.25" you must be doing Buchla Style. When doing individual or "Uni /4U" I
always line up the PCB on top of the panel before populating the panel and
mark/add two holes for mounting while making sure the holes will not in the
way of a pot.
here is an example of the mounting holes diagonal from each other. Notice
they are different for every panel because the PCB widths are different.

Or do you mean mounting screws for mounting the panels into the rack ? That
would depend on your rails.
