A few Pyscho LFO questions .

A few Pyscho LFO questions .

2009-06-27 by acidblue@ymail.com

First of all, Hi There !
Im new to this group and to CGS Synths, all syths actually.
I have a few basic questions about the psycho LFO.
First is there a North American dealer that sell component kits?
I found elby -designs web site but it's in Austrailia,(http://www.elby-designs.com).

Was hoping to find something a little closer to home,USA.
Also would this be a good PSU to use?
http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMu0oxGuRuNKH%2fB0w%252b6kzuJQ5H7FcWK620U%3d

I noticed the psycho has one output jack, would this go straight into a speaker amp or does it need to go thru something else first?
Like i said I'm kind new to syths.
I know a little electronics, i've made motor shields for my Arduino,(microcontroler), so i can do basic soldering and stuff, can read basic schematics,
figured the psycho LFO was a good place to start my venture into the DIY syth world.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to synth DIY!

There's no problem ordering from Elby Designs or from Ken Stone. It
helps if you can use PayPal. I buy a lot of DIY stuff with PayPal.

Yes, that power supply will work fine. It can be modified to put out
+/-12V or +/-15V. Most DIY synths use +/-15V supplies.

The Psycho LFO isn't normally used for generating audio, but for complex
control voltages. You'll need some Voltage Control Oscillators (VCO) at
some point. Those are the audio generators and can be frequency
controlled by other modules like the Psycho LFO.

I would highly recommend the product you are looking at. It can also
be found under a number of different manufacturers names - Connor,
Power One, etc. They work great and from what I understand they are
what can be found "under the hood" of a few modular synthesizers
companies.
