Full 19" width panels

Full 19" width panels

2007-04-12 by Andrew

Playing with Cary Robert's Serge recently got me to thinking about
building full size 19" x 5.25" panels with several modules in them
(instead of standard FRAC sizes).

You would gain an extra 1" of useful vertical space, which adds up
pretty quickly. And you wouldn't need a rack/cage, which would save
you some $$$ right there.

Anyone done this? Any potential problems? (besides not being able to
unscrew and remove a single module!)

Yes, and it was a royal pain from the construction/adjustment/repair points
of view. It is SO much easier to keep them seperate. I use the Serge format
though, allowing 1" width per column. Wooden rails will do for mounting.

Hi
I tried making Fracrack modules, that format is just too small for
my taste. I have been doing 1u rack modules for my new synth.
Plenty of room for big knobs, lots of jacks etc.
Also you can buy cheap blank 19 inch rack panels from Bud,Hammond etc
for cheap.Drill a few holes, do a little home made graphics and bettys your aunt.
