I'd guess that they'd be fine if you just bought a few and test them. The question is whether they will hold up or not.
I used some cheap pots from AllElectronics about 8 years ago, that were about that price. They look exactly like alpha pots, but w/ a slightly different marking on the back.
they still work. (tho I did just make a post about scratchy pots. but I think it is unrelated)
