FZ data transfer cable and FZDump - for WInXP!

FZ data transfer cable and FZDump - for WInXP!

2014-03-22 by <gmeredith1@...>

I'm in touch with a guy testing out his beta hack of FZDump for WinXP - he made me up the special parallel port cable for the FZ-to-PC, and I've been testing it on various computers.

I now have my FZ-1 loading sample banks from computer in about 40-50secs over parallel port! At this stage he's not intending to make it dump FROM the FZ to computer (says it would require writing drivers) but who knows where it could end up - perhaps some programmers out there could get together with him to do some of the hard work?? It's certainly a start. Now for all those FZ owners with dead floppy drives, at least you can now get your samples on to the FZ again (a lot faster than MIDI transfer)

When he feels it's reliable enough, he'll release it and I'll let you all know.

Cheers, graham

Well, there's also the possibility to modify certain floppy drives that are more or less readily available to work inside the FZ-1 or use a HxC floppy emulator (which is what I do although I have a working floppy drive). Although using an SD card instead of a good old floppy does not speed up loading the samples (because of the floppy emulation) it is now much easier to back up and trasfer files.

Yes I've been looking at those HxC drives too...tell us all the details - how to install them in an FZ-1 or FZ10/20M, how to set them up, how to use them - please describe them in detail. What are the limitations?? Best place to buy?? $$$$$?

I think these and the FZDump fast data transfer for XP are going to start a bit of an FZ revival - might cause their ebay prices to shoot up (shhhhh!!)

cheers, Graham
