Has the LCD a foil cable or is it connected trough conductive silicone rubber strips?

With silicone strips, take them out and clean all contact surfaces (on rubber, PCB and glass) with a cotton swab and isopropanol. This often improves the contrast of poorly working LCDs noticeably.
