live bcr2000 live mackie emulation and plugin mapping question

2008-08-14 by robleighton22

hi there,

im loving the bcr2000 with 4.1 mackie preset. however, i have one
gripe. all vst plugins map fine and i get the first option to turn
on/off the vst device. however, on any ableton device, i get all
parameters except 'device on/off'. i dunno if its just the preset, cos
i swear ive seen a screenshot of someone using ableton with autofilter
and huskervu, and the display showed that u could switch the device
on/off. i could just use vst plugins instead, but i love ableton
plugins, and in a live performance i need to b able to instantly turn
an effect on or off. any ideas?

thanks

Ok - well that one is my baby.
Glad it is working for you... for the most part.

In the video...
You are witnessing slight of hand... sorry Rob.
I edited the video to turn on the effect.
Sorry about that.

So - no none of the native Live plugins have on off.
I am not sure why...
Do your live sets all look the same?
Meaning, have the same fx or racks?

You might look at keyboard (qwerty) mapping to solve this prob.
Or there are 5 free knobs... you could map them...
You might also look at the LIVE keyboard shortcuts, perhaps there is
an on/off for active plugin????

each track will have the same effects, i only use 2 tracks at the
moment and then link things through my dj mixer. slightly odd setup i
know. i just need to b able to turn effects on/off when using the
preset for djing. shame really, i hav got midi keyboard i can use for
triggering, or better still an mpc. so i cna still map the on/off
switches. however when i try, it the on/off switch on the plugin will
flicker...so it doesnt work.

Im probably better off making my own specific dj setup. one thing ive
noticed, i cant map anything in live unless i have the mackie preset
selected. if i was to select preset 10 for instance, i get no lights
and no ability to map. is this because i need to configure what the
buttons and knobs do and they save that as a preset? ive got bc
manager, im just trying to get my head around it.

i like the bcr so far, but i might admit, its been less plug and play
than i thought.

ok so, presets i sorta get, i take it u do need to setup it up
yourself to have ur own preset and for it to be ready to be mapped.
got the buttons mappable, just need to sort the faders.

ur preset is fantastic tho, and i will b using it very frequently for
production. i wonder why the parameter for on/off isnt there...is
that something to do with live and how it uses the mackie
automapping?

thanks loads for ur reply so far.

Not sure why, but look into using the qwerty keyboard to turn fx on
and off.
Most of the bcr is spoken for on the mackie preset of the bcr2000.
Now preset 1 on the bcr should be the one for using with Live.
It, might have what you need via auto map in live.
Read up on it in the manual, and make sure that the preset in #1 is
the one from Live...
Does that make sense?
I remember that the automap feature let you upload the preset to the bcr.
Look up automap and bcr2000 in the live manual.

thanks. u might have solved one issue for me. managed to map the on/
off for 2 effects by altering the middle row knob functions. at the
moment i have the first 2 knobs turn off the 2 effects on channel 1,
and the last 2 knobs turning off the effects on channels 2. is there
a way in bcmanager that i could have the first 2 knobs turn off the
first 2 effects, but dependant on what channel i hav selected. i.e
channel one selected, therefore knobs 1/2 = channel 1 effects on/off.
channel 2 selected, therefore knobs 1/2 = channel 2 effects on/off?
that would possibly b ideal.

also on mackie control, what does the 'control button' do and what
does the 'option' button do (i know option+clip = stop clip, but
wondering if 'option' has any other functions)

sorry bout the slightly random questions, thanks for your help so far.
