I have written a Max patch which combines elements from the Cubase
generic remote, emulation of the Frontier Alphatrack (like MCU
emulation), and vstxml's (which allow you to re-arrange a plug-in's
parameters however you want).

This allows me to select any track and have instant access to the
parameters of each of the 8 inserts. Since this supports vstxml, I
have pre-written maps which have these parameters ordered exactly how
I want, so that they correspond to whichever knobs on the BCR I want.
e.g. every compressor has Thresh, Ratio, Attack, Release, Knee, misc,
misc, Output Gain, on the first 8 knobs.
