Yep, - thats true ! But S-1100 sounds very musical IMO.

I dont like these S-5000/6000 samplers, - the only real advantage was the
larger memory.

>but they sounded terrible in a mix.

:-D

In that particular case, we took them off and used the gritty-but-gorgeous
strings off an Ensoniq Mirage...

He, he, - yes, - there are great sounds for the Mirage, but it has only one
meg of RAM, - so ...
I had the very 1st Mirage in europe, I performed it on Frankfurt fair in the
80th when it came out.
Before, I had one at home for a week, no manual and very 1st software and
only 2 discs.
I arrived at the fair and I got a new one immediatedly, - w/ new OS and
software. All my preparations were gone in a second, - it was a desaster and
I could only play 1 Piano-disc which sounded terrible.
After the fair, - I got one item by Ensoniq, but there werent enough sounds
actually and so I sold it after a week by frustration.
It wasnt a pleasure to sample w/ this toy.

Years later, - I got some Mirage discs I have up to now and I use these w/
my 2 Oberheim DPX 1s for the old school stuff as also I use EMU Emulator II
discs, Prophet 2000/2002+ and Akai S-900 discs w/ the DPX.
