Akai S1000 / S1100 samplers

Hi All,

I have an S1000 keyboard that I just bought.

When I switch it on it says" waiting for disc...SKIP"
This skip message disappears if I take the scsi card out, but the device is still unresponsive.
It doesnt react to any buttons or functions apart the program number dial,which I can turn up and down0-128. On program 1 there is a sinewave that I can play on the keyboard.When I play the sinewave, in the middle of the keyboard there is a key which if I press down, weird digital noise loop plays and the option button flashes.It sounds as if the sinewave got mixed up with a digital stream of data.
If that key is pressed,none of the others respond but if any other keys pressed apart of the middle,they play in polyphony without an issue.

It didnt come with a floppy and it displays OS2.0 when it boots. Do you think it needs a floppy to boot?
 
I took it apart , reseated modules and connectors but still no joy.

Sorry to ear that...

You don't need a floppy to boot, the OS is on two eproms, so you have 2.0 in. The last one is 4.4 for the rack version, maybe the same for the keyboard. You can find it on the bay :

About the "skip message", it's a problem with a fuse on the scsi board, if people plug/unplug scsi cables after power it on, you can find lots of information on the web :

Also check and clean everything inside, check the connections, gently push on all eproms for better contact, and don't touch capacitors !

After the fuse, maybe you need to check if the power supply is ok, but i can't help with this.
