Can't start DD recording with S1100 OS 4.3

I recently got an Akai S1100 with SCSI, SMPTE, FX and 32M memory. It came with OS 1.36 and I updated the EPROMs to 4.30. I connected HDD, formatted it and expected to use direct to disk recording option. Unfortunately when I hit DD -> Take, it displays a message "Hardware change needed for DD operation".
Can you advise what's that about and if you have that option?
