Akai S1000 / S1100 samplers

Hi I picked up an S1000 in January, sounds great but I cannot get the 
SCSI card to do anything. I have tried a 2.1GB hard drive, a 4Gb hard 
drive and a CDROM drive. All of them just report the message "disk 
drive not ready" I have tried all the combinations of SCSI channel 
numbers that I can, upgraded to OS 4.4 ( does anyone know what 
differences are between version 2.1 and 4.4?)tried internal leads, 
external leads, Terminated at both ends etc.......but no joy. 
I am getting a good pile of SCSI drives now, shame they don't work with 
the S1000. The SCSI card may be third party as it does not say IB-103 
on it, but this is the one that came with the machine. can anyone help?
