Hello lads! ... it was a birth, a hard goin work, unmounted my s1100, got to get that old 1.44 floppy off and swapped it with an ol' scsi zip, and it worked like a swift (well, after some bubblin' around ...) ... Facts to remember if anybody else wants to try this: .- there's no way to pull things out' of the akai, it's a tank, you MUST unscrew all you can and dettach all cables near what you're trying to dismount. .-there are all kind of different sized screws on the s1100, write out where you unscrewed'em from ... .- test your drive BEFORE closing the s1100 ... better if you test it before dismounting your floppy. .- if you let the floppy cable attached even with floppy's power unplugged, it will timeout forever on booting .- if you happen to plug the internal scsi cable backwards, the s1100 will also timeout forever while your zip makes some funny noise. .- let the zip with termination on and id 5 (the default) which happens to be the default drive the s1100 looks for on bootup .- touch regularly ground in order to discharge your self from static electricity. I also got to replace the burned out lcd backlight with one i got from www.midi-rakete.de, cheapest source in europe and that also worked like a charm. ... in my next reincarnation I might try to replace the zip with an ide flash reader + ide-scsi internal adapter :^) (bought one, but happened to be SCA, not SCSI 50 ... it's going back to ebay where I got it from) ... now I'm just going to enjoy my s1100 + int zip attached via scsi to my old faithful atari falcon! greetings, Sebastian. > you can use an internal scsi zip drive if you have a scsi card with > internal scsi connector.
