you can use them interchangably, no problem nothing will break.. i imagine that akai used the bigger chip because they were cheaper at the time, or maybe the couldn't get the 27c512 chips.

better to write the contents into both the upper and lower part of the chips. harder to mess up that way!

if you're feeling brave you could take the old ones out of your s1100 and use them.

when i have to use bigger eproms than i need, i normally just make a file with two(or more) copies using the linux 'cat' command. that way i don't need to worry about the extra data lines.
