I've just done this myself, and there's one gotcha. Assuming you use 1Mb chips, the rom file has to be burned onto the upper 512kb of both chips. This is because, despite using 1Mb chips, Akai only uses the upper 512kb and the highest address line is held high.
It does also mean that you can use a 512kb eprom instead of a 1Mb - though the prices of both nowadays are pretty comparable.
