I'd suggest a non-rechargeable long-life nicad battery. This to avoid 
future leakage. Get a AA-type and a socket for it. Place it far off the 
PCB and remove the recharging circuit (if I recall correct it's just one 
component). I hope your battery hasn't leaked on the PCB yet. It can be 
scary...
In times like these you realise you ought to take more shots of the 
procedure while at it. :S

No part no to recommend since I bought my stuff here, among the polar bears.
