A few layout differencies (and I guess some of the insides too). The 477 
has all the channel volumes grouped at the left and the 478 has the 
independent volume with each channel.

(Funny how the first "pollard syndrum" google image displayed is a 
picture of my unit, posted by it's former owner.)

At least the 478 came with the Oddy-styled slider caps, which, like on 
the Oddy mk3, Axxe mk2(?) and Avatar meant that they turned brittle with 
time and broke. All mine are replaced with black "pips" like on Oddy 
mk1. The 477 is the first too BTW, and seems a lot more rare.
