My SDS9 kit had no identifiable snare (no pad with a grey "o"). I only knew which was the snare after opening the pads for restoration, externally it's identical to the toms. The piezo for the rim was broken anyway, aparently by an abusive previous owner, but since I use it with an SDS8 brain it's no problem but easily fixable if required :-) I stuck a little "S" sticker next to the jack input so I could tell which pad was which.
