Serge Musician's Tapes 2002: the Rules
2001-12-03 by M. Blake Wilson
whereas i'm not particularly comfortable deciding what "the rules" are
for the
SMT2002, i did state that the submissions ought to at least feature
serge gear
"in a solo or prominent" role, with production notes, patches, etc. i
think its
equally valid to demonstate the serge on its own, as well as in
interaction with
other instruments. guidance might be found in the notes to the original
tapes over
at darrel's great site:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SergeModular/files/SMMSLINK.htm
note that several tracks have other instruments; please also note
especially
ivan tcherepnin's track, featuring a santur being processed by the
serge. i would
hate to think that members of this list would object to the inclusion of
such a piece
in the present compilation simply because its not "purely serge".
with this in mind, i'd like to see mostly serge, with notes describing,
if possible, the
non-sergian elements (i.e. "the 12 voice polyphonic organ sample at 3:32
was made with
a casio" etc). of course, i anticipate that most submissions will
answer the challenge
of producing innovative and creative works using just the serge; i know
mine will.
i hope this is agreeable to the list.
regards,
blake wilson
