You'll be lucky!

Actually after our last Quad discussion I did some more research and was
told by someone that the ultimate Serge Quad set up would comprise the
following:
4 QPC and 1 QMX, with 4 QUO.
Don't know if that's what you had in mind.

After pretty exhaustive research it still looks like the STS designed
modules are the only 'analog' economical solutions for VC. (If you call
$3k+ economical ;)

I am currently using multiple software solutions that work fine......but
would still like to work with MULTIPLE QUO's/VC.

Side note:
there's a new Vestax DJ mixer - the PMC-07ProI.S.P. -
that features quad outputs. There are two channel
faders (each with variable curve) & each channel has a
joystick to control the quad position. The VCA cross
fader also has variable curve . It's expensive
though, and only features phono inputs. I've got an
old PMC-50 which is really nice and the sound quality
of their equipment is top notch.

I've been in touch with Vestax about modifying it and
they said they could change the phono inputs for 2
stereo line inputs. They're going to get back to me
with other mod's, & I'll ask about the possibility of
c/v control.

regards,
Richard

to put it bluntly: YES! its been quite hot here in san diego lately, and with that huge ps12
up and running (along with powered speakers, mixer, etc) it gets awfully hot in the studio.
sure, i can blow a big fan, but then i'm competing with that noise as well.

on the good side, i recently got a doepfer maq 16/3 which has been great fun to use with the
serge; arguably, its been a much more flexible sequencer than the tkb alone. combined, of course,
you've got some power. but using the maq has brought me back around to one of my synth
tenents: analogues under digital control can't be beat.

LOL.. I can relate to that. Once i get my pair of 12's and a 6 going with all
the other junk in the studio, i don't even have to turn the heat on in the
winter time and during the summer.....well, i just kinda shut down during
late July and August. It's raining right now here in Portland which is
unusual for us in August but never fear!!... It's supposed to be back into
the high 80's by the weekend.
I'll bet your liking the MAQ huh? A couple weeks ago i got back into
useing mine after not having it on for about a year. I'd forgotten how much i
like it. I don't use computers for sequencing or anything else for that
matter and it was nice to fire it up and get something going.
I'll be glad when summer is over. Maybe then the list will pick up a bit.
Kind regards
John D

I didn't know people still worked in quad? I thought 5.1 was the new
standard.

Without getting into a discussion on the past/future of 'Surround'......I'd
say that the STS offerings are very adequate for most analog
diffusion/sound imagery/panoramic control/spatialisation. I would imagine
most would want to keep the STS out of the 5.1 center/LFE anyway ;)

With the easy (low cost) availability of programmable DSP matrix systems,
multi i/o soundcards, MPEG-X standards etc......the Serge unit should start
to get very popular again... Don't forget they list Sound/Music under the
'ARTS' ;)
