FS: 10 Panel Serge Modular Rack/Transit Case (US) - $850

Hi All,

I'm selling a 10 panel custom Serge transit case.

It's a second generation design fabricated by Quantum Scientific / Cyber-Cases.com.

Here's a picture of it in action:

It will hold 10 Serge panels and safely move them to the ends of the earth (everybody's favorite destination). The antarctic research station, some branches of military and other spendy orgs used this case manufacturer because of the build quality.

I've used Custom Janal, Rhino, SKB and a few others. For the strength provided this design is the lightest and most integral I've encountered.

Compatibility:

This custom rack case supports 2.5" to 3" deep boxes.

It racks Serge transit cases (series '79), Modern Serge 2.5", Bud Industries 3.0" (Paperface) and original Driscoll Chassis. STS Oakland (90's) era Rox Boxes *do not fit* as they are to deep. The Synton Fenix is also too deep.

Weight and Travel considerations:

Case empty weight is 37.25lbs. Total weight of setup pictured above is 70lbs. A reasonable target for airline baggage.

To stay at/under the 70lb target with 10 panels of modules I installed a set of aluminum support rails and dropped the individual panel chassis (no double casing) which cut 15-30lb off the total weight (depending on which type of chassis omitted).

Hardware and Construction details:

- case is made from a single corrugated sheet of hardened aluminum, folded and welded at the shortest seams.
- an interlocking lip with rubber inset provides protection from moisture
- opposing security rings on each door allow one to lock the case
- 2 inset handles with rubber grips at each end of the case provide 4 total handles allowing confident 2 man movement for difficult stairs or stages.
- dual spring loaded fasteners secure the case closed
- 4 rack rails provide 20u per side. Cuts at the bottom of the rails provide room for front panel power connection. I may provide the panels for this. PM me.
- 8 stacking ball iron corners protect the case from rough handling.
- Custom aluminum rails with cutouts for intersection with serge-type pcb rails are installed (2 left, 2 right). PM for details.

Documentation of wear:

- You can see in one photo the minor wear in one area of anodization on back side of the case.
- There is a small pin-point dent on one edge near a lower latch.
- The stacking ball corners are roughed up a bit. small amounts of oxidation are lurking in streaks where the metal has been scratched. I could use a dremel to polish the ball corners and coat with wax but the buyer can just as easily if they want a showroom case.
- The .5" lock rings have lost some chrome and show tarnished metal in places.
- The recessed handles could be polished and waxed (they have large rubber grips but the steel around them is darkened - probably won't bother many people but again worth mentioning.
- It is not totally silent. When you flip the case upside down some small aluminum shavings that are orphaned inside the lip will slide along making a light sound.

Dimensional Specs:

Closed W/H/D: 20.75" x 38.30" x 9"

Spacing between optional inset-notched-alu-rails: 17.22"
Spacing between rack rails (inner width): 18.1"
Spacing between rack rails (outer edge): 19.45"

Depth from rack rail to back of case: 3.25"
Distance from rack rail to front lip of case (space for knobs when closed): .90" on each side. Plenty of room for Knobs on each side.

I designed it with two goals in mind:
- slimline
- strength

I'll pack it the same way it originally came from Quantum Scientific: 2 layers of strong cardboard protecting the outside from scratches, holes cut for the handles to make the shippers live easy.
