Serge Custom panels.

Serge Custom panels.

2008-11-09 by denonbld

Is Rex still not doing custom panels? I am weighing up between a
Buchla, Wiard and Serge. I love banana patching but I would like to
fully configure my own system. Some of the shop panels suit me fine
like the animal and sequencer panel but with M-class supporting the
rest I feel I will have many superfluous modules.

Please bring back custom panels Rex!!!

not much chance of ever seeing custom panels again. But even if he did my guess is the starting price would be a flat 5K no matter what you put into it.
That's just my opinion of course, but backed up by conversations spread out over a few years. Give the M class some more time. My guess is that at some point no one will miss the custom jobs. Personally the M class does a lot more to satisfy than even the crazy custom jobs I had done back in the 90s. . . and I don't even have any. LOL

As much as I loved the custom panels in concept, I have to agree with Rex’s direction and the “father knows best” stance he has taken with the M-class. The functional blocks in the M-class are only getting better and provide a best of breed compromise between functionality and density in a logical package. The existing shop panels are well proven designs for macro functionality and between the two, I don’t see that much has really been lost and that the upsides to the new approach are substantial.

Agree with James wholeheartedly.

I would recommend that you contact Rex directly - chances are that in his vision of what the M-line will become, your need for a custom panel may very well be taken care of.

Cheers -- Bill

I don't really dig the M-modules. This is supposed to be a modular
synthesizer and for the money that it goes for, I think it's unfair not
to be able to choose exactly what someone needs. I don't see why should
I sell a kidney to have all the modules that I need without having
redundant stuff.

If Rex brings back custom panels, then I am in. Otherwise I could
definitely by a Modcan.

Yannis

Every manufacturer chooses a way of packaging their product for the
market they serve - it is what works for them (or not) - don't believe
it is a matter of fairness.

Not to speak on behalf of STS, but they have taken a building-block
system philosophy where the components are M-modules or complete shop
panels, as opposed to modules.

It is a good thing that there are choices out there more aligned with
your philosophy.
