New Serge M-odules released: The 'Dual ADSR' and the 'Wave Processor

2008-08-06 by Bakis Sirros

hello,

two new Serge M-odules have been released:

the Dual ADSR m-odule (includes two Extended ADSR modules, a Dual Comparator, and a Dual Transient Gen.) price is 1600 USD

the Wave Processor m-odule (includes Ring Modulator module, Triple Waveshaper module, Wavemultipliers module, Xfader module, Mixer module) price is 2000 USD.

Sketches and Pictures in the Photo section of the Yahoo! Serge Modular Users Group and in the Egres website (www.serge-fans.com)

thanks,
Bakis.

hi Bakis,
can you or anyone else on the list expound on the virtues of the serge ADSR?

thanks!

I have two. They're great! Very fast response and really long duration. The stage inputs are super useful -- you can patch 4 outputs from an SQP, for example, into the ADSR stage inputs for wild real-time envelope shaping. Or you can use them to mix and feedback the ADSR's output... The shape switch is very handy, of course, and you can use the Gate and Trig inputs simultaneously for all kinds of interesting triggering variations. You can also trigger at audio rate for even weirder effects or for use as a signal source. I really haven't finished exploring all of the possibilities, yet!

Re: New Serge M-odules released: The 'Dual ADSR' and the 'Wave Proce

2008-08-07 by Bakis Sirros

hello,
well, i do not (yet) have the Dual ADSR m-odule, i only have an old (mid-80's) extended adsr module in a mid-80's serge panel of mine.
the 'virtues' are:
it has a delay stage, all of its stages (plus the delay stage!) are voltage controllable, and you can switch between linear attack and release, or exponential attack and release, or exponential attack only and linear release.
it has a gate and trigger input, but the trigger input reacts very different than the retrigger input on most other adsr's:
the serge adsr output stays at its sustain level ALL the time and it drops to zero volts ONLY when the adsr receives a gate in its gate input.
if you send a trigger in its trigger input, then the voltage drops from the sustain level to zero volts with a rate controlled by the Release knob, then goes to peek voltage (+5 volts) with a rate controlled by the Attack knob and then drops again to sustain level with a rate controlled by the Decay knob. (IIRC)
so, its quite a different behaviour than the other adsr's...
that's all.
best regards,
Bakis.

Re: New Serge M-odules released: The 'Dual ADSR' and the 'Wave Proce

2008-08-08 by matthew carpenter

Hi,

I had the chance tonight to compare one of my Extended ADSRs from a 2007 STS panel to Bakis' account of his mid-80's version. Apparently, the version that's in the CV1 Shop and M-class series is a redesign which follows this gate and trigger logic:

Sending a +5v logic 'Gate' (high), the input time 'Delay' segment is activated setting the 'pre-attack' time.

Then, with the 'Gate' still high, the 'Attack' time segment follows, then the 'Initial Decay' time segment, settling at the 'Sustain' voltage until the 'Gate' goes low and then the 'Release' time segment follows until another 'Gate' is high at the input.

The 'Trigger' input re-triggers the 'Initial Decay' segment only for articulating accents from the TKB or Sequencer, for example.

The individual segment inputs have wide exponential voltage control. The VC ALL input is a master 1v/Oct 'total time' input for the shrinking or stretching the entire envelope.

As I mentioned earlier, the combination of individually voltage programmable segments, from a Sequencer B M-odule, for example, the individual segment inputs and the composite CV input yield an extremely flexible envelope system.

Hope this helps!

hi Mat,
yes, i think that all these are valid for my mid-80's verison too (don't know about the 1volt/oct scaling of the 'all vc' though),
but if you ONLY send a trigger to the adsr (without a gate being sent to it), then, it behaves in the ''odd' (but normal for Serge) manner i told you. (release, then attack, then decay to systain voltage level).
i guess your adsr behavies this way too. just try it. unless they have changed this behaviour (that would be a pity, as i like this 'wierd' envelope when the adsr is triggered Only and not 'gated')
thanks,
Bakis.
