Serge Frostwave MC1

Serge Frostwave MC1

2007-05-05 by cray5656

Hi all

I have a Frostwave MC1 MIDI/CV and whilst I can get the serge to play
on my Edirol controller keyboard, I find that the response is not so
quick, for example, I either patch up the Serge to my Doepfer Quad
ADSR or the DUSG I hit the key and it triggers, but if I retrigger the
kboard within a second it doesnt resond, unless I use the DUSG to make
a real short envelope..I know that sounds obvious...I am also finding
that the tracking of notes isnt spot on, if I hit the same key its
almost like I am playing sequenced notes

I patch the Frostwave
CVA into 1/Volt Octave
Vel Mod -> second 1 volt/octave (where would it go on the NTO,the same
1volt/oct?)
Gate -> DUSG Tig in then out to the mixer VC1+2
if that helps you understand my patch

I think the confusion may be due to the analog envelopes behaving
quite differently than typical digital/VA envelopes, which due to
software retrigger easily. Using the Trig In (as you stated) the
DUSG will ignore pulses that occur after the initial one until it
has completed the full rise/fall cycle. You might get somewhat
better results by trying the Sig In jacks - the DUSG will "follow"
the voltage at this input, but note that the gate voltage must fall
sufficiently in order to rise again, so pot times are critical.

I believe this is occurring because (per your description) you are
patching the Vel Mod to the oscillator. Different velocities will
affect the pitch to varying degrees, in accordance with how hard you
strike the Edirol key. To avoid this, connect only the Frostwave's
CVA to one 1/Volt Octave input. The Vel Mod could be patched to a
filter cutoff, wave multiplier, NTO waveshape, etc, for timbral
variation controlled by velocity.

Hope this helps!
